Apple Betty
Ingredients
1/3 Cup Melted Butter
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 tspn. Ground Nutmeg
1/4 tspn. Ground Cinnamon
2 tspn. Grated Lemon Rind
2 tblspn. Lemon Juice
1/4 Cup Water
6 Cups Peeled Cored and Sliced Tart Cooking Apples
2 Cups Soft Breadcrumbs
1/3 Cup Melted Butter
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 tspn. Ground Nutmeg
1/4 tspn. Ground Cinnamon
2 tspn. Grated Lemon Rind
2 tblspn. Lemon Juice
1/4 Cup Water
6 Cups Peeled Cored and Sliced Tart Cooking Apples
2 Cups Soft Breadcrumbs
Method
Heat oven to 375o F. Toss butter with crombs. Grease a 1-1/2 quart casserole. Arrange about 1/3 of crumb mixture in the casserole. Toss together apples, brown sugar, spices and lemon rind. Cover layer of crumbs with half of apples. Sprinkle aapple layer with another 1/3rd. Of crumbs. Repeat with remining apples and crumbs. Combine lemon juice and water. Drizzle over crumbs. Cover tightly and break for 20 minutes. Remove cover and continue to bake until apples are tender - about 30 minutes longer. Serve warm, with plain or sweetened whipped cream. Serve 6.
