Date and Walnut Loaf
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/4 tspn. Salt
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 tblspns. Butter
3/4 cup chopped dates
1cup boiling water
1/2 tspn. Lemon juice
1tspn. Bi-carb.
2/3 cup chopped walnuts

Method
mix and sift together the flour and salt.Stir the sugar into the boiling water and when dissolved, add the dates.Simmer till these are soft,then add the butter and stir till this has melted. Remove from heatand add the lemon juice and allow to cool off a little;then stir in the bi-carb.Stir in the sifted dry ingredients, adding the chopped walnuts.Bake in a greased and paper lined loaf pan for 45 mins. At 325 degee F.
