Date Loaf

3/4 cup chopped dates
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 tspn baking powder
2 cups flour
1 small tspn Bi-carb
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 tblspns butter
1/2 tspn salt
1/2 tspn lemon juice
Sift together the dry ingredients. Add the sugar to the boiling water , bring to the boil again, add the dates and boil till these are quite soft. Add the butter, stirring well to blend. Allow to cool, then stir in lemon juice and sifted dry ingredients. Bake in a well greased paper lined tin for 40 minutes at 375 degree F.
